A Taste of What's to Come in the Virehnai Chronicles...

I've been busy writing Books 2 and 3 of the Virehnai Chronicles, and I'm having a total blast. I've come to the conclusion that I'm simply a glutton for punishment. Why I write multiple books at once, I don't know. I thought I was doing it in the Magic Abounds series to keep the stories straight. Whoopsie! Guess that wasn't it, after all. :)
Book 2 is called "The Night Shift." That's what happens when you're trying to find the cause of a mysterious illness striking the Virehnai, causing them to age, turn into ghouls, and then die horribly... What do you do with the aging vampires, called Virehnai, who are turning into ghouls? Can you say "buy an eldercare facility," put them into their own building, and wait for the ensuing issues stemming from that decision?
Book 3 is called "Blood Witch." It's the story of Kiera Scotti, oathsworn to the Virehnai, and witch in hiding. She had a flamingly forbidden relationship as a human with a 200+ year old Virehn; her affair was discovered after he got sick, and suddenly died. Disowned by her family, and fired from her life, she makes her own way. Between forbidden relationships and the fact that Kiera's a witch, it makes her family unhappy when the Virehnai turn to her, hoping she can help fix the magic underpinning the Virehnai, and failing. She becomes the first Sêthar’vethra (Virehnai blood witch) in 500 years.
The most fun thing I've written all weekend, I'll leave right here. Within it are hints of what has already been, and major hints of what will be coming in the next three books. Stay tuned for more! And for your reading pleasure, I give you:
The DARK PROPHECY OF THE BASERABI:
From the house born of fire and conquest shall rise a fractured divide.
Like a star set upon its path by hands unseen, the line is established.
One line, blood red – drawn from East to West.
One line, two shadows:
One born of oath and duty, the other of treachery.
When the Daughters of Basarab
seed the thrones of Men,
Their blood will walk the Earth in crowns unaware; unknowing.
The root and branch of the Baserabi line will bear fruit,
until it meets with Vengeance - a time of burning, wildfire and desolation,
where it will slip into silence, and finally, forgetfulness.
The Compact will waver when Blood remembers Blood.
In the stillness of forgetting,
the Forgotten One of Beginnings and Endings -
the Devourer - shall stir again, seeking a vessel, a place in the light.
The vessel sought will be of that line - forgotten, untended;
a wild root in a lonely wilderness.
None shall know except the Oracle and the Blade- a Sêthar’vethra. (a Virehnai blood witch)
Should the vessel succumb
Bright flame will fade
And cold, dark fire will clothe itself in flesh.
The Devourer of Beginnings and Endings will wear a crown,
and all alive will mourn.
unless those weapons formed triumph.
