I've been having SOOOOO much fun writing these! Not Quite Human's about halfway done, and to start off the series, I decided to pull a bunch of the background material I've written, and I'm reorganizing it into a novella that will be out SOON and will be called "Tales of Blood and Eternity," which will probably be the name of the series...Blood and Eternity.
Welcome to the world of the Virehnai. They don't like being called vampires. The only good thing that particular term does is help them to disappear into the background. That tends to happen when you're lumped into the realm of fiction, stereotypes, or the Easter Bunny.
Tales of Blood and Eternity will introduce you to some of the major characters in the series, and some of their backstories. It starts with Kiera Scotti, who finds herself in Treasure Trove, talking to Helena because she's realized she's a witch. She's also a bit of a 'bad girl,' having a secret, forbidden fling with a 212 year old Varehnai. It doesn't matter whether you call them Varehnai, or vampires, they still don't like witches much.
You'll meet Amalie Bisset, who's a 115 year old Virehnai who's just lost her mate to a freak car pileup on I-95 between Newark, NJ, and Manhattan....and then she gets tasked with teaching his replacement.
There's also Elaina Jacoby, who is an oath-sworn human who is part of the Robichaux clan. Amalie's loss is Elaina's gain - she's invited to become Varehnai, replacing Amalie's husband. To keep their numbers down and stay hidden, one Varehn has to die before another can be made. Amalie will be teaching Elaina everything she needs to know, as others driven by jealousy, anger or revenge are plotting against her. Not everybody's happy about Elaina's good fortune.
Finally, you'll get introduced to Michel Robichaux, who is the head of the Robichaux clan. He's over 2500 years old, and was made Virehnai during the Peloponesian War, but doesn't look a day over 38. They all have secrets and stories.
Check back in the "Sneak Previews" section - because some time within the next week, the first chapter of "Tales of Blood and Eternity" - "Kiera's Story: Where there's smoke, there's fire" will be available for download, along with an audio version of it (in mp3 and also on YouTube) To be honest, I'm hating the AI voices. The inflection and pronunciations (and the flaming hoops you have to jump through to make any of it sound right) are driving me nuts. (Luckily, it's a quick trip.) Once the novella's on Amazon, the AI voices available there are better, and it'll be available on Audible, as well.
